This is my 9th year as a Latin and English teacher at Hendrickson High School. I have taught Latin and English in a variety of schools over the past 21 years. I have a BA in Classics from the University of Connecticut, an MA in Liberal Studies from Notre Dame of Maryland University, and my teaching certification was done through the University of Houston.
My purpose in teaching Latin at Hendrickson is to engage students in an exploration of the roots of western civilization. While we focus on the Latin language, which helps to increase a student's vocabulary and understanding of English grammar, we also explore the history and culture of the ancient Romans.
My objective in teaching English 4 is to prepare my students for the reading and writing tasks that they will face in college and their career. Students will research colleges and write the college essay, research and write an in depth essay on a topic of their choice, participate in a survey of British literature, and develop a writing journal. The English 4 teachers work and plan as a team. Our grading and course content will be consistent throughout the year.
I spent the summer of 2014 studying archaeology in Rome at the American Academy. I learned so much in this program and am delighted to bring back a wealth of information to share in my Latin classes.
I love all types of music, especially classical and jazz. I love to read both fiction and poetry, and I often try my own hand at writing verse. One of my favorite activities is cooking up a gourmet dinner. I don't watch much TV and most of the movies I see are classic oldies, so I need lots of help from my students to keep up to date with the latest trends in the media. As I love all things ancient, am intrigued by the Romans, and now have traveled to Italy myself, I am interested in organizing a group of students for travel abroad.
